Albemarle Corporation develops, manufactures, and markets engineered specialty chemicals in the United States and internationally. Its Polymer Solutions segment offers brominated, mineral, and phosphorus flame retardants used in plastic enclosures for consumer electronics, printed circuit boards, wire and cable, electrical connectors, textiles, foam insulation, and foam seating in furniture and automobiles; and produces plastic and other additives, such as curatives, antioxidants, and stabilizers. The company?s Catalysts segment provides refinery catalysts, such as hydroprocessing catalysts, fluidized catalytic cracking catalysts, and additives; and polyolefin catalysts comprising aluminum and magnesium-alkyls used as co-catalysts and in the preparation of organic intermediates, as well as produces metallocene/single-site catalysts to develop and produce new polymers. Its Fine Chemicals segment offers performance chemicals, such as elemental bromine, alkyl bromides, inorganic bromides, brominated powdered activated carbon, and bromine fine chemicals used in various industrial applications. It also produces tertiary amines for surfactants, biocides, disinfectants, and sanitizers; potassium-based products used in industrial applications; alkenyl succinic anhydride for paper-sizing formulations; and aluminum oxides used in various refractory, ceramic, and polishing applications. In addition, this segment supplies fine chemical products and performance chemicals for the pharmaceutical and agricultural uses; and engages in fine chemistry services business, which offers custom manufacturing, research, and chemical scale-up services for companies. The company sells its products to chemical manufacturers and processors, manufacturers of consumer electronics, petroleum refining companies, and other specialty chemical companies. It has a strategic alliance with MeadWestvaco Specialty Chemicals. Albemarle Corporation was founded in 1993 and is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
